Distillate Treating
Howe Baker supplies electrostatic separation systems for the treating and purification of kerosene, diesel, jet fuel and other distillate streams to meet product specifications.

About This Solution
Distillate treating covers the removal of water, brine, caustic and other impurities from kerosene, diesel, jet fuel and other middle distillate streams prior to product transfer or blending. Residual water or caustic carryover causes specification failures, haze formation, corrosion and equipment damage in downstream distribution and product handling systems.
Howe Baker supplies electrostatic treating systems for distillate water separation and caustic extraction duties. The electrostatic coalescing principle applies an electric field to excite and coalesce dispersed water droplets, increasing their size until gravity separation becomes effective. This is particularly useful in low-conductivity distillate systems where conventional gravity separation is ineffective against stable emulsions.
DC treater technology is applied to distillate treating duties where AC field designs would be unsuitable — for example, in aviation turbine fuel applications requiring compliance with ASTM D1655 and DEF STAN water separation specifications. Systems are designed to the electrical area classification requirements of refinery locations.
